A Preview of Things to Come

New York City had seen better days. Ever since the uprising 50 years ago, parts of the once bustling and vibrant city were in various states of decay. Some sections of the city towards the mainland were still doing quite well, but the former business districts were in complete shambles in Manhattan. Patrolling the city was the NYPD, now simply renamed the Law Enforcement throughout the country. Each major city's police force recognized the need to be united and flexible, feeling that they could better protect the citizens than the United States Military. As such they were usually the first to respond to Rogue Power Armors. Today was no different, as a police car was thrown at several teams of Police PAs. Nearby the still standing Empire State Building, a lone Gundam Power Armor stood, its height nearly three times that of the average human. "Shit, when does the Military get here?!" the Lieutenant yells out, as he fired a machinegun at the large armor, the damage indicator in his visor reading 0.0%.

"Not for another 10 minutes sir!" one of his subordinates says through the comm-channel, as they spread out into various alleyways, hopelessly firing their weapons. Against normal-sized PAs their weaponry would be just fine, but one this large had enough armor to ignore the bullets as they merely pinged off the armor.

"Call in the SWAT teams, hurry! Snipers, switch to beam weapons and try to target critical components. Bring in the rain, we have to hold out for 10 minutes." the lieutenant orders, as a Heavy Weapons Squad moved into position above them a few floors up.

Breaking the windows, the Heavy Weapons wasted no time and fired their bazookas down below at the large Power Armor. Caught by surprised, it barely had enough time to react as the shots exploded onto its armor. As the smoke cleared, a string of five beam shots lanced out from its right arm at the level where they shot at. The Heavy Weapons Team panicked and tried to get away as the area exploded around them. Tossed deeper in, their bazookas were rendered inert as their armor was ripped off in several areas. They had survived with their hasty move, but couldn't participate any longer in the fight. Looking back at the Lieutenant's squad, the Power Armor began drawing energy to its chest, as three lights began to appear in a line. As the energy discharged to the group, a voice was heard yelling to them. "Get back, now."

As explosions raced across the street, patrol cars damaged and a SWAT armored car damaged as it was coming in, a lone figure in a black cloak stood in front of the lieutenant, a beam shield deployed in front of them. As suddenly as it appeared, it rushed forward at the large armor with faster speeds than the other suits. "Recon team, scan immediately the new armor."

"Sir, scanning- wait, it's transmitting over to us its IFF info, its....a Gundam PA! Synch rate 75% and...its a Ranger!" the lead responded back, as SWAT arrived at their position, armed with beam rifles.

"Sir, we're getting your men out of here, we'll take over."

"Good, but don't hit that Gundam...it's a Ranger. Support him instead."

Hesitating for a moment, the SWAT commander nodded and understood. Up ahead, the new arrival rushed forward and as the dark armor fired out another barrage from its fingertips, the small Armor took the blow, its cloak dissolving instantly. Smirking to himself, the aggressor was caught by surprise as the newcomer was suddenly above, revealing a black and white armored body with 4 extended thrusters on its back, firing its beam rifle at the chest. With each contact, the shots caused small explosions in the armor, a defense mechanism of the ceramics installed into each Power Armor. Landing behind the large black armor, the small PA quickly turned and fired its beam rifle into one of the left back knee, repeatedly blowing away armor. Angered, the armor swung with its arms to grab the smaller more agile armor as it leaped back out of its reach. Taking apart the rifle, a small beam gun and a beam cutlass ignited from the single weapon.

As the SWAT Teams moved into position, they signaled the snipers to do their job, as they fired into the back and shoulders of the Power Armor, ripping off bigger chunks of the armor. "Just as I thought," the Ranger said, as the armor chunks fell off to reveal circuitry. "No you don't!"

As the armor tried to engage its aggressors by turning around, an anchor lanced out to grab the left arm, latching on securely. Looking back, the Ranger had held onto its arm with an anchor, its thrusters pointing backwards to hold it back, as he pulled back to throw the large armor off balance. Quickly moving, the Gundam launched itself forward as it dropped the beam gun. A small x-shaped saber appeared on the front as it punched the armor in the face, doing superficial damage but more importantly shaking it up. Reeling its anchor back, the Ranger saw the damage done to the Gundam's shoulder, as the snipers had scored direct hits on the area the bazookas had hit earlier. "At least I won't feel bad about this," the user says to the larger Gundam, as he hops onto its shoulders, knife daggers extending out underneath its feet to hold it in place. Slicing through the exposed structure with ease, there was a final whisper to the rogue. "Remember this....Rangers never work alone," the Ranger states, as he leaps off, as a small light appeared where the armor was sliced off.

The SWAT commander looked on in shock as a single beam lanced out from near the top of the Empire State Building, piercing through the rogue's open shoulder and underneath the armor, blasting through the damaged knee. As the rogue staggered, breathing heavily, blood was dripping down throughout his armor. In the distance, the familiar sight of the Military was coming in. Wasting no time, the Ranger moved to make his escape, as he ignited the thrusters on his back to quickly move behind another building, as the Recon Squad quickly lost sight, along with losing track of the unknown sniper.

As the Military came in to clean up the mess and take the Rogue into custody, a group of civilians looked on, horrified at what they saw. Two in the crowd looked onward as they turned and began walking away, the shorter of the two's jacket blew gently in the wind to show underneath a small piece of metal hidden away.
